The Tennessean: Tennessee foster kids face new hurdles at 18

November 9, 2012

This week The Tennessean, one of the state’s leading daily newspapers, published two stories about the Youth Villages transitional living program and our effort to expand it to help every young person who ages out of state custody:

The program began through the generosity of Clarence Day, The Day Foundation and other private donors. In Tennessee, the Department of Children’s Services has matched our private donations since 2006, allowing us to help more young people.

We are proposing expanding the program next year to help every eligible young person in the state. We believe our public/private partnership in Tennessee can become a national model and show what we can do in every state we serve. Youth Villages has pledged to donate $12 million over the next four years so we can expand the program to help every foster child in Tennessee who needs these services.
