Rap star Jay-Z gives shout out to North Carolina TL youth

February 6, 2014

Seven transitional living program participants in North Carolina recently got the incredible opportunity to see one of today’s biggest entertainers, Jay-Z, live in concert.

Jay-Z’s philanthropy – the Shawn Carter Foundation – provided our young people with tickets to the singer’s Magna Carter World Tour performance in Greensboro, N.C.

His foundation helps individuals facing socioeconomic hardships further their education. Youth Villages’ transitional living program helps youth aging out of foster care learn to live successfully as independent adults.

The young people were very excited and listened to Jay-Z’s songs on the way to the concert.

“They were over the moon when he gave the group a shout out during the concert and put them on the big screen,” Whitney Robertson, TL clinical supervisor, said. “It was the first concert for several of the young people and definitely one they will never forget. One of the girls, Desirea, said it was the best time of her life.”
